Just over ten years after Viñas del Vero was created it was already the Somontano Denomination of Origin’s leading winery and ready to launch one of its most cherished projects; the creation of a winery that would make its top of the range wines only. Blecua is a delightful, charming winery that opened its doors in July 2000. It is very close to Viñas del Vero, along the Vero river that links Barbastro to Alquézar.
Blecua, more commonly known locally as “torre Blecua” (“Blecua tower”), dates back to the 11th century when it was used as a retreat for the French Benedictine monks from Santa Fe de Conques. It covers fourteen hectares right in the centre of Somontano and includes a beautiful Italianate villa that was built towards the end of the 19th century and that Viñas del Vero has restored in order to build the winery where we make our most emblematic wine: Blecua.
