THE WINE
Blecua: the wine and the triple selection.
Blecua is the result of a triple selection, namely vineyards, grapes and barrels. Therefore, we get an exceptional wine, deep cherry in colour, very intense on the nose, with firm but gentle tannins and the oak finely integrated in a harmonious whole. This is a wine that is delicious for drinking on release, although it will continue to improve in the bottle for at least 10 years.
One of Blecua’s quirks is that it is different every year, as only the best barrels of each variety are selected at the end. In vintage 1997, the first to be released in September 2000, only 15 barrels of the four varieties were finally bottled.
In 1998, taking into account that it was the best vintage ever in Somontano, 68 barrels were finally taken in, mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon and Garnacha.
On the contrary, Blecua 1999 wasn’t released. The final work wasn’t of an adequate standard according to the quality parameters established for Blecua; therefore we skipped this vintage.
Blecua 1997 and Blecua 1998 are sold out. In September 2003 Blecua 2000 was released, Blecua 2001 in October 2004, Blecua 2002 in May 2006, in March 2008, Blecua 2003, and in June 2009, Blecua 2004.
