10 years have been enough for Viñas del Vero, the leader winery in the D.O. Somontano whose first wines were released in 1990, to give birth to one of its more desired projects: a winery for the crafting of its wine of the highest standard, Blecua, whose doors were opened for the first time in July 2000.

Blecua winery is just some metres before Viñas del Vero on the road from Barbastro to Alquézar. The estate dates from the end of the 11th century, when it was used as a retreat by the French Benedictine monks from Santa Fe de Conques. Set in 14 hectares of vineyard, and located in the heart of Somontano, Blecua is a wondrous old House completely restored by Viñas del Vero to create a new winery for the sole purpose of making an exceptional wine: Blecua.

Blecua is the culmination of a triple selection: vineyards, grapes, and barrels. Nowadays Viñas del Vero has one of the largest extensions of own vineyards in Spain. Likewise, we select the seven best vineyards of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha and Tempranillo every year. Then we start a traditional and careful wine making process that culminates with the selection of the best barrels of each variety. Only the best barrels, selected after some thorough tastings by our winemaker Pedro Aibar, take part into Blecua’s definite blend. Therefore, we obtain a unique wine of limited production that represents the best of Viñas del Vero year after year.
